A couple of days ago, OPB ran a feature on it's Oregon Considered program about why anyone would want to run for the school board. Former school board chair Julia Brim-Edwards said this:
Julia Brim-Edwards: "So my first phone call when I, uh, was in the paper
that I was thinking about running was from what I think is one of the
best political consultants in the state, who is a friend of mine, said 'well, that just ended your political career'."
So why is Ron Saxton, who served as school board chair a few years back, running for governor? Again? Saxton, you may recall, was leading the board when it selected perhaps Portland's worst superintendent ever, Ben Canada, a thoroughly incompetent boob from Atlanta who was let go in 2001 with a costly "golden parachute" costing the district $300,000.
In his news commentaries for KATU, Saxton calls for strong state leadership which he says will restore the "trust" of citizens in their government. I say we can do without the kind of "strong" leadership that Ron Saxton demonstrated in his stint on the school board.
You can read his KATU commentaries here. And scroll back to my post "Faith based education" for Steve Duin's none too complimentary take on Saxton's gubernatorial candidacy.
As a life time Republican I would NEVER in a 1000 years vote for Ron Saxton. I have NEVER trusted him and Never will. What we have now Governor Ted is just as Bad. For the first time I feel we have a Real person I can Vote for in Mary Starrett! She is Honest and will not OWE anyone when elected. I hope the democrates & Republicans like me, will stand up for REAL Change and shock the heck out of the rotten two partys that have become to much alike.
