The Jeld-Wen Blazers?

I normally wouldn't give a damn about which gazilionaire ended up owning the Portland Trail Blazers, but the thought of a Jeld-Wen backed ownership of  P-Town's main professional sports franchise doesn't sit right.  Especially after charter school zealot Rob Kremer proclaimed:

" 'Their [Jeld-Wen's] values are exactly the values of Terry Porter . . . in why we're doing this,' said Kremer."

Let me tell you about Jeld-Wen's values:  They're hard right-wing!

Here's a run-down of some of the Jeld-Wen "family's" political contributions over the last several years:

• Bill Sizemore for Governor  --       $50,000     (1998)
• Republican National Committee -- $26,650     (2000-4)
• Oregon Republican Party --         $75,000     (2004)
• Walden for Congress --              $  4250      (2000-4)
• Friend's of Gordon Smith --         $  4200      (2000-4)
• Zupancic for Congress --            $  2000      (2004)
• Boquist 2000                            $    400
• Bush-Cheney                            $  4200      (2000)
• Forbes 2000                             $  2000

In 2004, Jeld-Wen's founder, Richard Wendt, donated $51,100 to the Oregon chapter of Citizens for a Sound Economy to defeat the legislatively-referred Measure 30, which would have boosted Oregon's tax revenue.

In 2005, Jeld-Wen, as a member of the Alliance for Worker Retirement Security, donated a whopping $145,801 to the Bush campaign to privatize Social Security.

And in 2006, Wendt handed Ron Saxton $100,000 to fund his successful Republican primary bid for governor.

It's probably no coincidence that Rob Kremer has been working hard on behalf of Saxton's gubernatorial bid.
