I predicted a 6-1, possibly a 5-2, vote by the Portland School Board tonight denying the revised application of the Ivy Charter School. Others have called it differently.
Regardless of how it turns out (it will certainly be a split vote), the result may be the first true measure of newcomer Ruth Adkins' influence on the board, on how it views the "adverse impact" of charters on neighborhood schools, and how it may ultimately go about tackling the issue of the district's flawed transfer policy.
We'll find out tonight whether Ruth and public testimony in opposition to Ivy will influence the board's final official vote. Be there, or tune in to the live telecast on Comcast Channel 28 at 7:00 p.m.
