We're big Paul Newman fans at Chez Wacky, both for the acting and the politics. Fittingly, I heard about his passing while at a Saturday night hockey game. We went home and fell asleep to Slap Shot in his honor.
I have to admit, Steve, that I never watched Slap Shot. But I will, along with some others that I haven't seen.
Cool Hand Luke is easily my favorite movie, so well-acted, well-filmed, well-directed. And it's far superior to the book it's based on, something one can rarely say about about any movie.
One of Newman's best films is the somewhat obscure The Outrage, a remake of Kurasawa's Rashomon. I'd highly recommend it. Of course it's been over 40 years since I originally saw it.
Cool Hand Luke is classic. Slap Shot sees Newman paired again with Strother Martin ("Captain" in Cool Hand Luke). It's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, due in large part to the chemistry between Newman and Martin. It's directed by George Roy Hill (Butch Cassidy, The Sting).
What, no Slap Shot clips?

I'll make sure to see The Outrage.

Sometimes I think that our own offenses should seem so much less heinous than the offenses of others. I often feel confused.

when we come to judge others, it is not by ourselves as we really are that we judge them, but by an image that we have formed of ourselves
